Hurricane Sandy!

On Monday October 29th, 2012 Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast with a vengeance. It's target....New Jersey! With little warning residents were able to prepare themselves - well somewhat. It was everything they said it would be and more. Tab was unable to contact us for 5 LONG days! He finally emailed on the following Friday to say that he was just fine. It was one of the best letters I've received yet! He says there is lots of work to do. Tim sent the following quote to Tab:

“We lose our life by serving and lifting others. By so doing we experience the only true and lasting happiness. Service is not something we endure on this earth so we can earn the right to live in the celestial kingdom. Service is the very fiber of which an exalted life in the celestial kingdom is made. Knowing that service is what gives our Father in Heaven fulfillment, and knowing that we want to be where He is and as He is, why must we be commanded to serve one another? Oh, for the glorious day when these things all come naturally because of the purity of our hearts. In that day there will be no need for a commandment because we will have experienced for ourselves that we are truly happy only when we are engaged in unselfish service. Let us use the freedom which comes from self-reliance in giving and serving.”

I really liked that quote because often I think of service as a commandment and not a blessing. But I       can't think of anytime where an honest act of service hasn't yielded lasting happiness. And true happiness. So I appreciate you reminding me of that. I'm sure that the next several weeks and months will be filled with lots of service.
